Optellum presents new discoveries in AI and Machine Learning

Members of the Optellum team recently attended our first Oxford innovation event since the pandemic, where we enjoyed meeting and connecting with academics, industry partners and research students at a presentation on ‘How AI and Machine learning are accelerating discoveries in Biotechnology’ at the Oxford Brookes Enterprise Centre.

Three speakers presented their use cases for AI in Biotech. Our own Aleix Cambray from Optellum demonstrated how AI and Machine Learning are being used to help clinicians identify and track at-risk patients who are diagnosed with lung cancer, and speed up clinical decisions reducing unnecessary procedures.

Simon Bornschein, CEO of coding.bio presented how AI is being used to design new Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CARs) and choose the best-in-class performers to improve CAR-based therapeutics. Alex Batchelor, CEO of OxDX Ltd spoke about their solution using super-resolution microscopy paired with machine learning techniques to build instant pathogen tests.

There was a lively and engaged discussion of how AI is embedded in modern BioTech solutions and what this means for the future of the sector. Thank you to Georgie Phillipson and her team at Oxford Brookes for hosting us at their new co-working space for innovation.
