Lung Cancer awareness month 2023: Solving the Lung Cancer Puzzle

Lung Cancer Awareness Month is a poignant reminder of the urgent need to spotlight one of the most prevalent and deadliest forms of cancer worldwide. With an alarming rise in lung cancer cases and its devastating impact on individuals, families, and communities, November is a dedicated time to raise awareness of the causes, risks, and preventive measures associated with this disease.

Clinicians, academics, healthcare systems and innovative companies all agree on the importance of early detection, the need for accessible screening programs and deeper understanding of the factors contributing to lung cancer in our collective pursuit of a world free from the grip of this deadly disease.

Optellum’s world-leading radiomics solution aims to solve four key problems:

  • The millions of lung nodules found annually, 90% of which are found incidentally in patients treated for another condition
  • Missed follow ups, 60% of patients are lost to timely follow up
  • Invasive procedures, 30% of invasive procedure are conducted on benign lung nodules
  • Delayed lung cancer treatment, the 5 year survival rate for lung cancer diagnosed at the earliest possible stage is 90% compared to a dismal 15% for late stage diagnosis

The Optellum Virtual Nodule Clinic is the world’s first AI-powered clinical decision support software for early lung cancer diagnosis and includes features designed to address all of these problems.

  • Patient Discovery AI helps nurse navigators and pulmonologists with automated early-identification of patients with reported nodules using Natural Language Processing (NLP) enabling faster diagnosis.
  • tracking and management provides nodule clinic specialists with an easy-to-use interface with longitudinal management and analytics to ensure timely patient care
  • Lung Cancer Prediction helps pulmonologists with optimal clinical decisions to avoid invasive procedures on benign nodules and driving earlier cancer treatment.

Optellum’s vision is to redefine early intervention of diseases like lung cancer, by enabling every clinician in every hospital to make the right decisions and give their patients the best chance to fight back. With more healthcare systems implementing our solution across the US, we’re on the road to achieving that ambitious goal.
